Professor John Wiggers

Professor John Wiggers is a member of the NEW1000 Executive Board and the Research Lead for Public Health and Health Translation.He is the Director of Hunter New England Public Health and an expert in the translation of public health research into practice and policy.



His research through targeting modifiable health behaviours such as alcohol consumption, drugs, smoking, healthy eating, and exercise.

His research involves multidisciplinary projects that aim to prevent chronic disease through targeting modifiable health behaviours such as alcohol consumption, drugs, smoking, healthy eating and exercise.

Recognising that getting one person to change is hard when their environment remains the same, Professor Wiggers takes a collaborative community approach to improve health, engaging with key community organisations, schools, sporting clubs, GP's, childcare services, and hospitals.

Professor Wiggers will use his experience in successfully integrating research into policy and practice to ensure findings in the NEW1000 Study have a far-reaching impact.
