Professor Joerg Mattes is a member of the NEW1000 Executive Board and the Paediatrics Research Lead.
He is Chair in Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Newcastle and has clinical and research experience in smoking cessation and asthma management during pregnancy, lung function in infants, biomarkers of allergy, and experimental studies in asthma and rhinovirus infection.
Professor Mattes' research involves investigating how women's lung health, including asthma management, smoking, and exposure to environmental factors, such as bushfire smoke, can impact their children's lung health.
Professor Mattes will lead the infant lung function testing in the NEW1000 Study to further our understanding of how lung development is affected by events during pregnancy.
