Dr Emily Hoedt is an Early Career Researcher and will lead the ECR/MCR Research Theme for the NEW1000 Study.
Dr Hoedt was awarded her B Biotech (Hons I) and PhD by The University of Queensland, Australia (2017).
Her PhD studies focused on the functional and comparative study of heterotrophic methanogens from different gastrointestinal environments. The project received funding through an Australian Postgraduate Award in addition to an industry top-up scholarship from Meat and Livestock Australia.
In 2018 Dr Hoedt accepted a Postdoctoral researcher position at APC Microbiome Ireland on an industry partnered project with Danone Nutricia.
During this time she worked on the development of a probiotic mix suitable for infants who are gastrointestinal "challenged".
Throughout her career, Dr Hoedt has developed a refined set of skills for culturing gastrointestinal microbes and the computational analysis of complex 16S/metagenomic datasets.
