Distinguished Laureate Professor Roger Smith is a member of the NEW1000 Study Executive Board. He is Co-Director of the University of Newcastle's Priority Research Centre for Reproductive Science, and the Director of the University's Mothers and Babies Research Centre. He is also Director of Endocrinology at Hunter New England Health's John Hunter Hospital.
As a leading researcher in reproductive and pregnancy health, Laureate Professor Smith has dedicated a large part of his working life to further our understanding of the causes and most effective therapeutic approaches to premature birth.
Laureate Professor Smith is an internationally recognised expert in the physiology of human birth and the pathophysiology of premature birth. His contributions to research have been recognised by his peers and he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), a Fellow of the Australian Society for Reproductive Biology, and a Life Member of the Endocrine Society of Australia for services rendered.
